Welcome to the Watching History blog. The main goal of this blog will be to comment on current and recent events with an attempt to put them into an historical context. In some cases, there will be an effort to identify events that might be considered historically significant by future generations. Of course, since no one knows the future, this will be somewhat speculative, but sometimes our past can provide some clues and suggestions in order to assist in this effort.

Occasionally this blog might make predictions based on historical analysis. It is unlikely that most (or even many) of these will prove to be completely accurate, but there will be no revisionist history. All predictions will remain in the record whether or not they prove to be true or false. After the fact, though, there may be some commentary on why the prediction was right or wrong, and if wrong, what was missed or misunderstood at the time.

It is certainly an interesting time in history, and the decisions made in the near future may have a profound effect on the future of all humanity. We can only hope the future will judge us well.
